In vampire vein

Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” saga – “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn” – is drawing the attention of scholars like John Pennington (English).

Pennington’s interest is in “the ideological blood that courses through the veins of the series.” That blood, he asserts, feeds Meyer’s views on gender, class and race, which are filtered through the dominant ideological force that controls the series – her Mormon religion.

Hear Pennington lecturing at St. Norbert College on “ ‘Twilight’: Productive or Problematic Ideology in Stephenie Meyer’s Vampire Saga?”

The audio is 30 minutes long.
